"In the Depths of Winter, I finally realized that deep within me lay an Invincible Summer"
Albert Camus

I put Simon and Garfunkel on the Jukebox...they always remind of Fall and Cold Weather....scarves and mittens and hot Chocolate.

It is chilly here this week, 30's, Wintery, and I was not ready for it, yet. I have been getting my house ready- but I mean ME , the inside of me is NOT ready yet. So other than plastic-ing windows, and rearranging furniture ( we move to one floor and shut off rooms to save heat, energy and money). What else do you all do to keep warm ?

My little tree house is so tiny, putting on the fireplace warms the whole place. And it's very cheery. And every night I have a cup of hot cocoa, in front of the fireplace.

I love the new lamps you have found for the cafe, by the way.

Happy Birthday Art.

I was at the cabinette today. Lit a fir and sat, looked at the lake. The wind was howling, but no lake effect snow yet.

Still missin' the little kids. So, I need a mocha, no whip cream please, extra shot or two of espresso. Put it in one of those tall mugs, not the large oversize coffee cups with the handle that I still can't get my finger into.

Where is everyone? This joint is empty. Ohm that's right. It's early in the AM. What time does the morning crowd start?

I'll throe some wood on that fire.

Peace to All.

Good fat finger typing. Did you ever see so many typos and chopped off words? Now you see why I can't get my digit in that hole.

Where's that Mocha!

afternoon enigma... thanks for the mocha! howdy spadoman... thought i'd find ya'll here... my heart goes out to you spado, i have a bit of experience having my kids leave, taking a huge piece of my heart with... mine happened through divorce so not quite the same...

i brought some green chile (chicken) enchilada casserole* with me... care for a plate? chile's from a bit south of Hatch, but i got a couple of bushels of the hot ones (sandias - i think... i just asked for hot instead of extra hot Joe Parkers or mild Big Jims) when i was there this september... had them roasted on the spot, took them to my sister's house and spent the next 4 hours peeling steaming chile bare-fingered, putting about 15-20 into the food chopper or blender for a couple short pulses and then bagging 2 cups to the quart ziplock, froze them and flew them home and put them on their own shelf in the freezer.

*[8-10 corn tortillas cut in 6ths; can of cream of chicken (or celery or mushroom), 4-6 oz of sour cream, 8 oz extra sharp grated cheddar, small yellow diced onion, a cup or so of (your choice of heatlevel) chopped green chile; a pinch each of sweet basil, oregano, parsley flakes, black pepper (1/8 pinch garlic powder-iam really sensitive), double pinch of cumin; (and if omniverous) 2 half breasts or 3 thighs of chicken -microwaved for about 6 minutes- cubed and blendered for a few seconds. Mix well in a Big bowl and empty that into a casserole dish, bake 350 for 40-45 minutes or golden brown on top.]

Art Garfunkel had a birthday on November 5th. You plated an Art Garfunkel somg

Who is A ball of light? I couldn't find a profile. I spend winters in Hatch, T or C, Deming and Silver City. I'll be down there February and March this year. Arizona in January. I do a lot with chile. We may have something in common. Where are you from? Down there? I also have a food (recipes with a catch) blog. I cook a lot with chiles.

Thanks for the mocha, Enigma, and thanks for the thoughts about my sadness as I miss my Grandkids a lot right now. But they are not gone forever, just moved. Now, it is an effort to go see them.

You're right. My fingers aren't so fat later in the day! Cool!

well, I can't eat chiles to stay warmie, living on acid reducers like I do. But as I've told Spado before, if I can just inhale them, it's almost the same effect. So if you don't mind someone's nose sucking up the aroma, waft those steaming chiles over thisaway!

To stay warm, hmmm, I'm so thin-skinned, my gooseflesh starts at about 50-degrees, even dressed like a snowman. We have a very energy-efficient house, extra insulation, low-e windows, weatherstripping around all doors & exterior electrical sockets & switches, etc. We get solar gain on the south side, so days are OK. At night, if it wasn't for my mattress heating pad, I swear my feet would fall off. You've never heard a more anguished groan than when my frozen feet rake my husband. And that's with polartech sleeping socks!

DK: please do give my sympathies to you hubby - I to had a hubby that requested I wear socks on my ice cube feet...and sadly I should not eat Heat- but I LOVE chilies and wasabi .....and I will suffer for it anytime...glady....

Spadoman: Ball of Light will hope fully stop back or find your blog on my blog...so he can get back in touch with you....if you get to go to the Southwest that is wonderful....so wonderful there...sandia mountains....sunsets in Santa Fe...

We put on an extra sweater or blanket and try to run the heat as little as possible.

And I switch my cooking over to comfort food. Lots of soups, stews, chowders, etc.

I'm a huge S&G fan too - mainly their older stuff while they were still together.

Don't know if you noticed but that Camus quote is at the bottom of every email I send.
