Old Women in My Heart....

***********************************
I have been thinking about the women that raised me....I spent alot of time with my grandmother, she raised me and gave me my Values....She "schooled me"...What was Right and What was Wrong...And because I spent so much time with her...she would take me to visit and check on all the relatives.....Stubborn Old Southern Women that were story tellers, laughing softly as they drank bourbon and lemon in their tea, and spoke with a Kentucky Lilt.....We used to check on them , do their laundry and also bring them meals and muffins...and warm sweaters....My favorite was My Aunt May, she live in an Old Brownstone in Downtown Baltimore. She was so many things, a Singer and a Performer at the turn of the Century. So listening to her sing or read was lyrical....special. She Bought her own Home in 1930....and she was determined to live out her days there...So we went to see her during the Baltimore Riots and she refused to leave her Neighbors...I learned from her ....so much...I carry her in my Heart.

Yesterday the GOP Senators decided that old people should be taken out of the Stimulus package...And my first thought was didn't they have a granma or an auntie ? An old woman with a soft Voice, and tender hands and stories....that could sing Greensleeves ? Breaks my heart....The Elderly in this Country, Our Country, are treated like Unclaimed Baggage.

Enigma, it seems that a lot of folks in your country are treated like unclaimed baggage. It's so sad. The life expectancy keeps getting longer, and yet when folks do reach that age, they're neglected. The first thing you need to do is get rid of the Republicans.

In the alternative, you need to move to Canada.

Very excellent post. I certainly agree with your thoughts and enjoyed what you said. All of us have people in our lives who have given so much of themselves to help us along the way.

Certainly in the Orient, age is given high esteem - as it should be in my opinion. The idea that older Americans are not included in the stimulus package is, well, beyond belief.

Emmy Lou Harris is one of my favorite artists, too.

Take care.

Enigma, I can't understand Republicans. They go against all that should be right, yet they call themselves and talk about morals.

I don't know how other conutries treat their old, but some in this country act as if they are not racing to that period of time themselves.

That is disgraceful! So where do they draw the line for old age? At what age are you declared "useless" and "immaterial" to the stimulation of the economy? Whoever planned this should be taken out and shot! Well, no...I'm getting carried away...but it is disgraceful that they would even suggest such a thing!

But they included people making six digit salaries, what could be fairer than that? Leave the aged out who would spend the money on necessities of life and include them that are not hurting yet and probably will bank the money.

I forgot to ask what was the rationale for leaving out the vets and aged?

Leslie:
I have no answer for that question because it is not fair...or rational... ( and thanks for being disgraced- it is indeed an absolute disgrace....damn shame). As of today I think some sort of "Compromise " is being worked out- I use that term ever so loosely....We will see WHO actually gets any help...because for some the money will help...

Walking Man:
as usual you are the Voice of Reason and Wisdom....and I wish it was not that way here....

Let's Talk:
I hear you....many other countries treat their elderly better than we do....we offer them Walmart jobs and tax what they need....big of us.....

Russell:
I know that people treat their elderly better than this....we should value our elderly...they have given much for many generations.

Josie:
I know that it is better North of the border....and I know that it should not be this way....thank you for your thoughts...

The rationale Leslie was that the people and disabled Veterans did not pay taxes if that Social Security and disability payment was their only income...ergo, they don't pay taxes therefor no tax rebate.

But I do believe the final version does include this two groups but it gives them a lesser amount than them that pay taxes.

We will ALL be old someday (if we are lucky?)! This plain fact speaks to the core: it is obvious to me that the people who would cut out low-income seniors are ones who have feathered their own nests so completely, they need have no worry or care for their old age. And they don't care about anyone else, and never have. The elderly are just another budget expenditure to them, another avenue for cost-cutting. Heartless!
