Something Happening Here...1.07.07

***********************************
I was not going to Blog about Obama over on this blog....
But I have been so inspired....moved by these crowds...I found myself mesmerized , by the
numbers of people, and all kinds of people. The Media keeps saying that it is the just "Young People",
that is not totally true. The crowds are diverse, old, young, and all colors, and all levels of the social strata....
WE THE PEOPLE.....
This man is reaching and touching millions...he is Connecting.

This reminds me of another era.

I have had the Buffalo Springfield Song, "Something Happening Here" stuck in my head....all weekend..

( if you have time, do look at the Google Images "Obama+ Crowds"...it is breathtaking...)

It`s a show, and every show has a stage, actors and a script, the audience attend the show, because they feel strangely, that they must, and the script uses up words like freedom and democracy, change and freedom and democracy and change and 100 or 200 million dollars worth of change will get someone elected.
Policies???

Nah, not in the script, the show just goes on, and on .. city to city, town to town, like an old rock band churning out what the audience want to hear.
Osama...Obama...There`s some sort of poetic justice coming somewhere.
"Stop children, what`s that sound."
Peace.

This is not a show...it is happening...
In Oakland the papers out there tried to say it was "His" people or a California Phenom....

BUT ...then it happened in Iowa ( I have pictures from Ames Iowa- the same thing...)

And Now New Hampshire.....a Cold Practical little New England State is on fire for him...

It is Real Friend...

Call me cynical, but it does cost sevral hundred million dollars to get elected president of America.
Obama has secured that funding, having done so, he has purchased a fine campaign :).
But at what price?
What promises has he given, and to whom?

I`m sure we all sincerely hope that someone claw back America from the aspirations and goals of the military/industrial right wingers.
The military/security/immigration "web" employs tens of millions of people, directly or indirectly, and generates billions of dollars.
It is the backbone and core of the American economy and to shrink its size would mean job losses and unemployment.
Can he, or will he do that?
Best of luck.

I need to explain that I do agree that it should not be neccessary to raise that much money to run or even want to run....it is an absurd system.

Obama and Edwards have both been committed to NOT taking Money from Big Oil, Drug and Insurance Companies, and War Companies. On Obama 's website he explains WHO has been giving to his campaign.Edwards is the one that has been running a Bare Bones Campaign, Obama has been luckier in WHO has given to him. Obama interestingly has had MANY MORE Individuals giving smaller amounts over longer time, people giving 20 dollars a week or a month....thousands of people like me...( Obama and Edwards explain on their websites). BUT in NO WAY has he "purchased" the Campaign. ( Now Mitt Romeny is another story).

Now Hill has taken from War, Insurance and drug Companies- and she is okay with that....Hillary is much more concerning...she has made deals...that is why she would make INSUrance MANDATORY.....

Both Edwards and Obama are speaking that there are other ways to create jobs in the Country- Not just the MIT, there are Infrastructure and education that are sorely underfunded due to the War that could and need to be revamped that would improve the job situation, and the economy....

The Military Job Market is NOT the only way to heal an ailing economy....

( I am not an expert...I just read...and I have watched alot of edwards and obama's speechs- Hill too...and some repugs too and too much Bush...)

Edwards and Obama are the type men that would build teams, and work with others to solve our problems...Neither one of them is a Cowboy...
neither is arrogant, or has denied that we are in Trouble...Huge trouble...

War does not heal Economies - ever.

It's nice to see a viable candidate emerge.... one that the media did not tell us it is. One that does hold hope because he has a different educational background (political science). His so called lack of experience, appeals to me-- that means he is NOT an entrenched politician. Remember Dick Cheney & W were the voice of experience & look how badly that went!
Certain facts exist~
• It does cost an obscene amount of money to run a presidential campaign in the US (shame, but not new news).
• Whomever becomes the next president inherits a HUGE mess. The Ntl Debt is 9 Trillion, (probably 10 + by the time W is out of office.) Undoing all the know & secret prisions scattered about the world. Trying to restore the reputation of this country, worldwide. The environment & education funding. The list goes on.

I did not know Obama is the ONLY Black person in the Senate in 2008.
The United States will have voted in it's first presidential person of color, ever , breaking another barrier.
* I don't vote based on race or gender, I vote for whatever candidate I think will do the best job, or the least harm.

Clearly, what you are talking about, Enigma, is that Obama has that fire within- the spark that is resonating with people.

Perhaps Obama does not have every answer for every issue, but I do believe he is a highly intelligent man that is compassionate, who would choose an excellent staff to oversee all the complex topics, and has touched on things-- like weapons non proliferation, environmental responsibility, diplomacy.
In other words he has a clue--- which is a whole lot more than we've seen in the last 8 years.
In a sense I have more admiration for someone who says I don't have detalied answers for each & every issue-- because the ones who spout off that kind of stuff usually wind up being shallow election promises that never come to fruition.
Is he on a good path?
Is he well educated?
Are his general ideas in the direction this country need to be headed?
Does he have a good heart?

The current momentum all points in positive directions to the above questions.

The election year is young-- but it may be Obama as a leader emerges early & sticks for the remainder.

America desperately needs change.

I can't get over how everyone talks about his being black. Isn't he half white and half black? In Canada that would make him just plain normal because we have so many different racial and ethnic communities across the country. We never even think in terms of colour. I watched the video and he is a great speaker with great charisma. But I honestly didn't hear him make any definitive or specific plans for the "change" he talks about other than setting up a committee. Maybe I (& other Canadians) just don't know enough about him.

Leslie: Just curious about the black topic.... does Canada have many high level black representatives?
Lots of communities have a blend of racial mixes-- but in the end, there are less black folks in the very high level positions. So it is seems like our own blindness- we are not prejudiced, even subliminally, we just have less people of color in high places.

Leslie: said...

There aren't a lot of blacks in Canada, to be honest. But we do have a lot of high level Asian and East Indian people in high levels. I guess it could be the ratios, though. ???

i'm up early, eager for the morning news shows, which will all show Hillary finally winning against all the naysayers. I like a Clinton/Obama ticket - Obama is simply not ready for prime time.

A Clinton-Obama ticket would be a knockout.

Leslie~ My point exactly-- I did hear a footall player make the point..... lots of black sports players -- very few black managers, and owners. We don't view that as being prejudicial, but you have to admit it makes for an eye opening analogy.
If you are not a person of color stuck on the lower side of the glass ceiling, you don't necesarily see it as a problem.
Anyway, it's not an issue for me, I really like the Senator from Illinois, and vibe wise or spirit- he seems to have the spark & fire in his belly. If I just try to gauge that element, I like him the best.
A flip side analogy would be if I *don't like Hillary*, one could accuse me of being anti-feminist, prejudiced against caucasions, and non democratic.
Truth is I am a feminist, caucasian, democrat-- but perceptions can be twisted around- because *I* know the reason I don't favor her is mainly that of her stance on war, spineless voting record, and the entrenched washington old timer stuff.

So I may have muddied the waters more.
I'm just trying to make the point our decisions are many faceted, as are perceptions.
