SOME GOOD NEWS...

I have been scouring the news for Something Good...So 6-6 and I were talking about China and the Pandas....and I decided to look them up and see how they were after the Quake. World Wildlife Fund verifys that the Giant Pandas at the Wolong Great Panda Research and Breeding Center are safe and sound. There are 86 Pandas there and all are accounted for after the Quake.

Pandas In China are their National Treasure....and in Folklore they are believed to have Magical Powers and to be blessed with many gifts. Yet sadly they live or survive on a limited diet, of 15 limited types of Bamboo that only grow in 6 very small Inland China Regions ( yes near the Quake Zone). They also need to eat 16-18 hours a day to stay alive, but they don't tend to eat under stress, so how they handle the Quake and the Aftershocks will be a test for them. They also do not tend to hibernate due to weather or stressful events ( Most bears do), they only hibernate during pregnancy.

Chinese Folklore is based on the Pandas, that they gained their black patches from tears mixed with the Earth when they cried over a lost Protector....But their wellbeing they believe is indeed tied to the that of the fate of the Panda Bear.....

I'm betting on the pandas. You know we have them in the San Diego Zoo where we have lots of earthquakes. They did just fine, even though it took a lot tweaking from the chinese coordinators to get them to "breed". We were on constant Panda watch whenever there was a baby through online Panda Cams. The little teensy cigarette size babies are so dependent, yet they can squeek pretty loud & the mother hears them & immediately responds.

just looked at your vid. that is obviously NOT the newborn little ciggie-size hairless pink things I was talking about! isn't it amazing how little they start & how big they get? still, that squeaky voice is about the same regardless of age. they are actually too cute for words.

I think a more immediate concern for the Pandas in China is what affect the failing dams will have on their habitat if they break. Major and Minor dams have sprung leaks and cracks since the quake. Maybe they should have contracted off shore for a better quality cement.

Peace

yeah..I hear you...the dams are just one piece...to be honest I really wonder when they just built that HUGE damn if that had any Fault Line issues....

About Cement-...they have plenty of ash there....BUt they build things too quickly and don't allow enough Set time.....and that might be part of it...the Cement has to cure....you can not rush Infrastructure..

Dk:::
thanks for appreciating the little creatures...amazing...
