Day 3 At Enigma Cafe......10.26.07

***********************************
I have been washing floors, the Black and White tiles are gleaming, and there is still much tidying to be done. The Local hardware store has called and they are delivering the Fireplace supplies today...I hope that nice handsome Fella Joe with the glint in his eye rides his bike over.....so we can start working on it...I even made some Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Muffins , just for him. The soup is simmering too, Corn Chowder for a nice blustery day by the Lake....and I made cornbread.

The Enigma Cafe is having it's first Photography Contest, "Leaf Peepers", and so I have been hanging up the first entries...it is like having trees right here in the Cafe. I have the Hollies on the Juke Box...

A friend has donated some old records and a record player. ( there is Ella, and Frank,Bing) and So tonight I thought we could have some music and we all could bring some finger foods....hmmm, I have to think of some finger foods., Any ideas ?

Thanks for the invite. Who could resist pulling up a chair @ the cafe?
As for finger foods, I have some weird cravings going on. Avocados. The Hass variety that are flavorful. Allegedly good for you because of the monosaturated oil. Also like the sweet cherry peppers in a jar.. the red/round ones. Chevre-- the fancy french name for goat cheese. Trader Joes makes a nice one w herbs, served on whole grain crackers.
Not a finger food pre se- kind of a messy seasonal treat- Pomegranate. Told ya I had weird cravings!

If I still had my avocado orchard in san diego, you'd all be getting a pkg now! They wouldn't be Hass cuz they ripened May-Aug in our north-facing grove. But we also had a few Reeds (the big baseball-shaped ones with lighter green creamy buttery taste). Those ripened Sept-Dec. We once supplied about 50 of them for a friend's wedding, all from one tree. We were all organic, no chemical fertilizers or pest sprays. Needless to say, that grove lost money every year. Now that it's history, I'm getting a hankering, too.

Fran, we tried a pomegranate bush, but it didn't do well, the fruit was not very good. We experimented with persimmons (better) and lemon-limes (combo, very juicy & hardly any seeds), a navel orange tree that bore fruit like a rabbit. The squirrels got our macadamia nuts every year. I miss the fruit, but not the work!

Oh good Betmo and Dk have found their way here...and Spado has finished the Fireplace...and it is plenty cozy here....hmmm, persimmons...persimmon pie would be good..maybe that is what I have to make this weekend...oh DK...you must miss all those goodies...and the smell of the fresh avacodos and I love the big buttery ones...

( I am very curious HOW a fruit bears like a rabbitt....but that is for another day....)
